Damage portrait and extra animations

Imagem
This week we are implementing the jumping and parry animations. We also implemented a damage portrait that works in the same manner as a health bar would.   As the player takes damage the portrait will change colors according to the damage taken. We will update the blog with the complete changes when it's finished. It's all for now. 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

Workshop Results

Last week we did our workshop with our focus group and got a lot of great feedback. We got most of the focus group to participate, with a representation of all the player personas we had defined. The ideas that we thought were the best were the following: General Features: A tournament mode, where you could join as a single player and fight with other characters, all of them different, to prove your course is the best, since every character represents a course, or join as a team of 4, where every character is a course from your university, to prove your university is the best. A photo mode akin to SSB’s photo mode where you can pause the game and take a screenshot of the action and save it in a gallery within the game. You could also upload these screenshots to your social media if you wanted. A challenge mode, where you have different objectives to reach with a limit imposed on you, like a time trial or you can only use a certain move to beat your opponent. These challenge...

New movements on tech prototype.

This week we received some new animations regarding jumping / falling from our artist. We are still improving the controls but we should implement the new animations in the following days. We are also implementing the attacks on two of the characters. See you next week. 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

Paper Prototype

Imagem
Last week we unveiled our prototypes to our focus group and the teacher, from which we received useful feedback. The prototype looked like this: The players moved in a grid environment and interacted with each other using different ability cards. All players had 4 basic cards, Defend, Attack, Diagonal Jump and Vertical Jump, and a Special Attack card that was different for every character. These are the basic cards. Each player has one of each and each card has a cooldown period of two turns. And these are the special attack cards, with their respective character below. The Chemist can launch a ranged attack in an arc in a range of 6 spaces, the Civil Engineer can do an attack that does double damage in the 4 spaces adjacent in any direction, the Computer Engineer can lower his percentage by 50% and the Artist can push a player at choice for 3 spaces in any direction. We are going to focus mainly on digital prototypes so this will be our final iteration of this pa...

Tech-prototype phase

Imagem
By finishing the first development cycle, we started to dedicate more time into working on the digital prototype. We chose to use the Computer Engineer and Civil Engineer as players since we already had running animations ready for them. The players can walk, jump and push one another but the attack part is not working yet. We will continue to work on this prototype by refining movement and introducing all the attack possibilities for each of these two characters. Later on and after finishing all the movement and attack parts, we will start introducing the other two players. See you next week! 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva
