MOJO Presentation and Final build (for now...)

Hello all! So, this week we had the MOJO presentation and we feel it was a success. We had several doubts regarding what we could present there in the prototype but the final result was overall positive. We still had some minor bugs in MOJO's build but our original vision was there and people liked. We retrieved some very important feedback and future builds will iterate on that feedback as well as add new features. For now, we will work on the course's final report and, after a small break, we will continue to improve UNIBRAWL on our free time. We will also post some screenshots, gameplay videos and MOJO photos soon! :) That is all for now! 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

Final Push and Gameplay Alterations

As this next tuesday is the final showing of our prototype, we are busy creating our melee combat and gameplay loops. We are also working on our promotional materials. We hope to have a good showing at MOJO, so we can properly show our idea for the game, even if it's not complete. Sadly, we will only go for the multiplayer aspect but we are going to keep it simple and fun and change some aspects of the characters, so they feel different. We'll see you at MOJO! Replacing background, refining gameplay and MOJO preparation

This week we will not show any images because we are still refining the gameplay loop so it reaches our vision. The background has been replaced and the level now looks and feels cleaner. The MOJO demo will include a fully-working 1v1 match that should be the experience we intend from our game. After MOJO we will release a gameplay video in order to show everyone what we have been doing so far. We will also share player feedback from MOJO. We are also implementing the start menus, scoreboards and we will try to have ready some kind of leaderboard. See you next week 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

New background for Tagus Level

Imagem
Hey everybody! As Ricardo said, we developed our playtesting plan and updated our concept documents to include details about player progression. Meanwhile, our artist, Marta, kept working on the art and animations of the prototype, which is going great! She updated the background for our Tagus Park Level, seen below, and it looks great in pixel form. We'll adapt it to the next iteration of our prototype and get it ready for MOJO! Until next week, Alexandre Poeira - 78503

Playtesting Prototype Preparation

This week we started to work towards the playtesting happening at MOJO. We are implementing the rest of the attacks and the animations that are still missing. We are also implementing the percentage meter that was planned, the win / lose conditions and a placeholder menu so the game goes through its preparation stages. We are trying out the combo system to get it tuned up and ready for the playtesting. We are and will continue to improve the prototype until the date arrives. See you next week 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

New attacks and animations

Hey! This week we were busy discussing the new attacks for our characters, and made a list of the potential attacks each character can have in order to be balanced with the rest of the roster. ·         Computer: o    Up - Uppercut, see a Shoryuken from the Street Fighter series o    Down - Summons lightning from the earth, creating a dome around him, if midair, creates a ball of lightning while going down. o    Moving - Dashes forward, if midair falls to the ground, can only attack again when he hits the ground. See Fox Up special from Smash o    Neutral - Throws remote which boomerangs back to the character, can't activate again until it comes back. ·         Civil:     o    Up - Charges upwards to grab an opponent and fills him with concrete, damaging him then letting go. See Ganondorf Up Special from Smash. o    Down -...

Minor fixes

Since I have been out of the country for a few days, This time around I only worked on minor tweaks and fixes regarding the projectile mechanics. We are currently working on the next phase documents. 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva

Focus group feedback

For this week, as Ricardo said, we were busy developing the second prototype and showing it to our focus group. Overall they liked the direction we were taking but they also had some harsher criticisms than last time. All of them liked the new animations we incorporated on the characters and their design but they didn't like the stage design, telling us that the background was not representing a good stage and that the platforms were a bit out of place. Regarding the control schemes, all of the group liked the movement except Tomás , that still thought there is too much momentum. The rest of the group disagreed with him so we’re going with the popular vote on this subject and not tweak the movement anymore. They also really want a double jump so we are thinking of putting one on the next prototype. There were many more opinions but these were the essential ones, we'll see you next week! Second prototype delivery

This week we had to deliver a second digital prototype. This time around we vastly improved on the first one: - The movement is fast and fluid with almost no collision issues. - It is now possible to play local multiplayer (one keyboard and one controller). - Both civil and computer engineer have almost all animations and both have one melee and one ranged attack implemented. We will keep on iterating on this and we will have news soon enough. See you next week. 72843 - Ricardo Coelho da Silva
